Art Project

a Palavra como Corpo

Word, Writing
Diogo Divagaçoes – prep-1

The Word as Body It is a project featuring workshops on writing, oral expression, and slam poetry that blends poetry, listening, and performance.

The word never starts at the top of the page.

It all begins with breathing, with memory, with what has not yet found a way to express itself. "The Word as Body" This stems from the conviction that writing is not simply a matter of organizing language, but of discovering a way of inhabiting the world.

This project brings together workshops held in schools, libraries, city halls, community organizations, and community centers, and combines writing, oral expression, and slam poetry. Each session begins with a time for listening and sharing personal experiences in order to create a space for connection that fosters the sharing of creativity.

I am not trying to teach a particular way of writing. My goal is to create the conditions that allow each participant to find their own voice. Writing emerges as an exercise in presence, spoken expression as the natural extension of this discovery, and performance as an opportunity to give back to the world what, until then, existed only in the depths of our own being.

Over the years, these workshops have been adapted to different age groups, contexts, and locations, while always maintaining the same principle: making language a living experience.

Writing is a physical act before it is a literary one.

Words are born of the body, of breath, of memory, and of experience. When they find a voice, they cease to belong solely to the one who writes them and become a space for connection.

The Word as Body draws on this relationship between writing, orality, and presence to create experiences in which poetry and performance cease to be separate disciplines and instead become part of the same creative process.

Each workshop becomes a space for listening, where the personal meets the collective and where each participant can discover a unique way of expressing the world.

Each workshop is tailored to the context in which it takes place, while maintaining a common thread: fostering active listening, encouraging authentic expression, and guiding each participant on a journey of discovery.

This methodology combines sensory exercises, intuitive and guided writing, oral expression activities, reading, discussions, and slam workshops. The performative aspect is not an aesthetic goal, but rather a natural consequence of a process in which language acquires substance, presence, and a connection with others.

Each group charts its own course. No two workshops are alike.

This project has been developed in collaboration with schools, municipalities, libraries, cultural associations, universities, community organizations, and social inclusion projects, adapting to the specific needs of each context.

More than just producing texts, the workshops aim to foster trust, active listening, and a sense of belonging.

Across the various contexts in which these programs have been implemented, there has been a consistent impact on self-esteem, oral expression, creativity, listening skills, and the appreciation of individual experience as artistic material.

The results are not measured solely by the texts produced, but by the relationships built during the process and by the confidence each participant gains in their own voice.

A project that can be adapted to the context.
